TMSG, BATists Urge President Tinubu to Declare State of Emergency in Agriculture

The Tinubu Media Support Group (TMSG) and BATists Against Inflation (BAI) have jointly called on President Bola Tinubu to declare a state of emergency in Nigeria’s agricultural sector. In a press briefing held in honor of Nigeria’s Independence Day, both groups emphasized the importance of massive investment in agriculture as a solution to the country’s ongoing economic challenges.

According to Barr. Jesutega Onokpasa, Chairman of TMSG, and Hon. Sunday Oluwanifemi Okikiola, Convener of BAI, the nation’s food security crisis and inflation can be mitigated through a robust and targeted agricultural strategy. They advocate for an annual investment of trillions of naira into the sector, which they argue would yield swift returns compared to other long-term infrastructure projects.

“Agriculture offers immediate returns on investment, with crops ready for harvest within months and livestock maturing quickly,” said Onokpasa. The groups believe that a massive injection of funds into agriculture could strengthen Nigeria’s economy, stabilize food prices, and ensure food security for the growing population.

The call for action includes a vision where each village in Nigeria is equipped with at least one tractor, a move that would drastically increase food production. The groups also recalled that agriculture was a central part of Tinubu’s campaign, and they aim to see those promises fulfilled.

The press release emphasized that while current economic challenges are not solely the fault of the Tinubu administration, it is the responsibility of the government to tackle them. Both TMSG and BAI expressed their support for the president and urged all Nigerians to focus on solutions rather than protests, proposing a “Renewed Food Revolution” as the best path forward.

The groups expressed optimism that with the right policies and investment, President Tinubu could lead the country to agricultural prosperity, restoring Nigeria’s economy and reducing inflation.

“Let us provide the food and see what the opposition has to say when they begin to eat the food provided by Bola Tinubu’s authentic food revolution,” they concluded.
