UBEC lauds Kogi SUBEB over projects implementation

The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) on Wednesday lauded the Kogi state Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) over the implementation of the UBEC/SUBEB projects in primary schools across the state.

The northcentral zonal coordinator, Dr Ene Adikwu, said this in Lokoja, the Kogi state capital at the opening of the bids for the 2018 UBEC/SUBEB projects in the state.

According to her, UBEC as an intervention agency ensured that all funds disbursed to states are utilised with strict adherence to due process.

She said the state had been paying its counterpart funds for the projects, saying this had necessitated the prompt implementation of the projects.

The UBEC boss, however, tasked the state not to compromise quality and standard at any stage in the execution of the projects.

She said it was in order to maintain standard that the UBEC, SUBEN and the Local Government Education Authorities set aside 2 per cent of the cost of projects for monitoring.

Adikwu also expressed confidence that the state would not compromise standards in the award of the contracts to qualified contractors to ensure quality deliverables that would endure.

The state chairman of SUBEB, Suleiman Abdullahi, said 120 construction of two classrooms, office and store, rehabilitation of 183 dilapidated classrooms blocks and drilling of eight motorised boreholes and construction of the overhead tank.

Others, according to him, include rehabilitation of 18 existing boreholes and procurement of 15, 843 sets of plastic/metal chairs and tables.

According to him, the monitoring of the projects would be handled by a combined team from the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), UBEC management monitoring teams and UBEC board monitoring teams.

He, therefore, charged the contractors to adhere strictly to the rules of engagement by providing high-quality projects.
