Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello has declared a total lockdown in Kabba Bunnu Local Government Area of the State commencing from 12 midnight June 2nd.

This was made known on Monday at a press conference addressed by the State Governor held at the Government House, Lokoja.

Governor Bello also directed all security agencies in the state to ensure strict compliance of the lock down order.

The Governor noted that the decision became necessary following the alleged and controversial COVID-19 index case in Kogi State as the National Centre for Disease Control recorded two cases for the state.

The Governor however condemned the opaqueness with which the National Agency was handling the situation noting that until proven otherwise the State remain Covid-19 free.

He stated that the during the lockdown, there would be no house to house movement within the local government area, while Street movement are completely prohibited within the local government area for the period.

The Governor charged that Palliative should be distributed house to house within the local government area noting that the Kogi State incident management team should continue to thoroughly carry out the contact tracing.

On the State’s row with NCDC, he pointed out that the Agency has refused to cooperate with the State Government and has even denied it access to getting samples of the alleged cases, hence the need for thorough contact tracing in the local government of the disputed case to verify the claims of NCDC.

The Governor said he remained in the dark over the peculiar interest which the NCDC and The Federal Ministry of Health had displayed in the state as regards the Covid-19 pandemic.

He pointed out that the theory which stipulates that kogi State must record cases because of its location being bothered by other affected 10 states was not realistic.

The Governor while he thanked the citizens for their continued cooperation urged them to maintain personal hygiene, washing of hands and the use of face masks in very crowded environment.
