Kogi State Government have dispelled rumors of its unwillingness to conduct local council polls, saying it has no plan to appoint Liason Officers or Caretaker Committees to manage the affairs of Local Government Councils in the State.

In a statement by the state commissioner for Information and Communication, Evangelist Kingsley Fanwo on Saturday in Lokoja, said Governor Yahaya Bello is a promoter of constitutionalism who will not subscribe to putting in place, governmental structures alien to the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“By the constitution of the State Independent Electoral Commission, the State Government has demonstrated readiness to conduct election in order to enable the people determine their representatives at the third tier of Government.

“We urge the people of our dear state to believe in the resolve of the state government not to subscribe to any unconstitutional structure at the local government level.

“The Governor is committed to conducting a free, fair and credible Local Government election as soon as legally practicable.

“Whatever will be done between now and the conduct of the election will be constitutional.”

It would be recalled Governor Yahaya Bello relieved the 21 Local Government Administrators few days ago and ordered them to hand over the mantle of leadership to Director of Local Government in their respective Council.
