Wemi Jones Visits Kogi Poly, Charges Management to Take Ownership of NKFI

Kogi State Commissioner for Education, Hon. Wemi Jones, has urged the management of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, to take full ownership of the Nigeria-Korea Friendship Institute (NKFI) and strategically develop it to expand opportunities for young people in the state.
Jones made the call during a working visit to the Polytechnic as part of the Ministry of Education’s ongoing institutional engagements aimed at strengthening educational institutions and improving learning outcomes across Kogi State.
The Commissioner commended the Rector and members of the management team for their commitment and efforts towards consolidating the development of the institution.
He reaffirmed the administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s commitment to revamping the education sector, stressing that education remains a major priority of the state government.
Jones also urged members of the Polytechnic’s management team to give maximum support to the Rector, saying unity of purpose, teamwork and institutional cooperation would be essential to achieving further development.
A major focus of the visit was the Nigeria-Korea Friendship Institute, which the Commissioner said should receive greater attention from the Polytechnic management.
According to him, the NKFI should be regarded as “more or less like a child to the Polytechnic”, stressing that its effective development and utilisation could help equip young people with practical and market-relevant skills.
He said strengthening the institute could contribute to employment, entrepreneurship and self-reliance among young people, while also responding to the growing demand for skilled manpower.
Jones further emphasised the importance of vocational and technical education to Nigeria’s socio-economic development.
He reiterated the Kogi State Government’s commitment to revitalising technical education, while acknowledging ongoing Federal Government efforts to strengthen technical education in the state.
The Commissioner called for sustained collaboration among government, educational institutions and relevant stakeholders to build a functional and sustainable education system capable of preparing students and young people for the demands of the modern economy.
The visit formed part of the Ministry of Education’s continuing engagements with educational institutions across Kogi State to assess progress, identify areas requiring intervention and strengthen efforts to improve educational outcomes.
