World Bank, NEWMAP visits Kogi on project inspection

A delegation of inspection team from the World Bank and the Nigerian Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP) are currently in Kogi State to inspect the various erosion control projects ongoing in the state.

The Work Bank and NEWMAP team who are led by Dr. Amos Abu, Technical Team Lead, and Dr. Joy Agene, Co Technical Team Lead were received in audience on Tuesday evening by the Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Chief Edward Onoja.

The team lead, Dr. Abu in his address said the project was a World Bank assisted effort at addressing Nigeria’s gully erosion menace, adding that the projects have 18 months winding down target.

Describing Kogi State as a leading star among the 25 states where similar projects are ongoing, the World Bank rep commended the state government for prompt payment of her counterpart funding and for providing the enabling environment which has accelerated work in various locations of the state.

Responding, the Deputy Governor, Chief Edward Onoja commended the World Bank for the intervention and stressed that the standard of work when compared with other projects shows a high level of delivery and professionalism, a factor he said contributed greatly to the overwhelming victory recorded by APC in the last election, as the people value the projects and displayed their appreciation through the ballot.

He expressed government’s determination to continue in the payment of counterpart fundings on the project and several others that would contribute to the development of the state.

Onoja assured the team of adequate security as they tour the state, noting that the government of Yahaya Bello prioritizes security.

The inspection tour which started from Kogi East is led by the Commissioner for Environment, Victor Omofaiye and the state coordinator of NEWMAP, Dr. Ladi Jatto.
