Youth groups, CSOs commend Gov Bello for prioritizing youth development in Kogi State

Kogi Youth Advocacy Cluster, a conglomerate of youth groups and Civil Society Organisations in the State, has commended Governor Yahaya Bello for placing priority on youth development in the state over the recent signing of Kogi Development Commission Bill into law.

The group which comprised of National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI), Lugard Youth Development and Empowerment initiative, Activista, Action Aid, Initiative for Grassroot Advancement and others have worked round the clock to ensure the initiation, follow up and eventual assent of the bill by the Governor.

The Group gave the commendation on Thursday, in a jointly signed press release by the Convener Kogi Youth Advocacy Cluster, Aminu Okutepa and Chairman NYCN Kogi State, Alonge Isreal which was made available to InsideStory.

The Group affirmed that Governor Bello’s bold step has clearly shown him as not only youth friendly, but also someone who was committed to reducing high level unemployment among the youth populace in the State.

KYAC noted that such signing was a notable milestone, stating that the Commission, when fully established, had the tendency to uplift millions of Youth out of poverty and create opportunities for them through capability building.

They revealed that the establishment of the commission would further help attract donor agencies that would facilitate skills development programmes for the teeming youth populace, charging the Governor to establish the Youth Commission and set up the Board soonest.

The group also thanked the Chief of Staff to Kogi State Governor, Hon Edward Onoja and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Assembly matters for their great contributions and efforts towards the actualisation of such great dream.

The Youth Group similarly extended their gratitude the legislative arm, most especially the Speaker, Matthew Kolawole for his outstanding leadership, and the member representing Ankpa 1 constituency, Hon Ahmed Muhammed for taking the responsibility to sponsor and lobby other house members to support the bill.
