‘My administration’ll continue to accord you due respect;’ Gov Bello to Kogi traditional rulers

Kogi State Government says it will continue to accord the traditional institution due recognition for the overall development of the state.

Governor Yahaya Bello made the remark on Tuesday at the official presentation of Staff of Office to graded and upgraded chiefs at the Government House in Lokoja, the state capital.

He said the resolve of his administration to grade and upgrade a total number of three hundred and fourteen (314) traditional rulers was bore out of love and regard for the Chiefs.

The Governor stressed the need for the Royal fathers to carry everybody in their various domains along and provide a sense of belonging in the affairs that concerns the people by providing peaceful atmosphere for citizens and non citizens resident in their communities.

He urged the newly graded chiefs not to relent in prayers to God for steady and smooth administration of the state affairs under his leadership.

According to him, their appointment has brought about an increased task of ensuring the safety, peace and security of their people in their localities.

He thanked the traditional rulers for their supportive and fatherly role to his administration and assured of his commitment towards the progress of the state.

Governor Bello added that his government would ensure the steady payments of salaries and allowances to the traditional rulers and directed the Special Adviser of the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to comply with the directive.

While calling on political key players in the forthcoming gubernatorial election in the state to exercise decorum in their conducts, he assured that the government on its part would provide the needed atmosphere for a hitch free election in the state.

Earlier, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Engineer Abubakar Ohere charged the newly graded and upgraded chiefs to actively participate in the activities of the state council of chiefs thereby making useful contributions that would add value.

Engineer Ohere congratulated them on their new status and promised that those agitating for upward review of their status would soon be attended.

He expressed gratitude to Governor Bello for giving adequate attention to the welfare of the traditional rulers in the state.
