Adavi/Ihima Conflict: Kogi Central Senator-Elect Sues For Peaceful Coexistence

The Kogi Central Senator-elect, Engr. Abubakar Ohere has enjoined the people of Adavi-Eba and Ihima to embrace peace and put an end to the crises between the two communities.

Engr. Ohere, in a press statement on Friday, condemned the violence that trailed a masquerade procession, escalating into destruction of properties with scores injured, and livelihoods threatened.

The Senator-elect stated that there was no justification for such outcome at an event designed to bring people together in unity and merry.

“I am utterly saddened by the reports of wanton destruction that was visited on properties during the physical altercations between youths of the two communities. Such actions are taking us many steps backward at a time when we should be making progressive moves. The essence of traditional outings, is to unite us in celebration of life and culture, not to bring about disaffection as now being wrongly portrayed.

“I urge the youths of Ebiraland to reconstruct their minds towards peaceful coexistence, and the socioeconomic development of our lands. We can only make progress when we eschew all forms of violence. On our path as leaders, we will do more to ensure gainful engagement of our teeming youths in enterprises that will make this change happen in no distant time,” he said.

Engr. Ohere also commended the government and security agencies for their swift interventions in de-escaslating the crises.

He further urged traditional rulers and leaders to put adequate measures in place to forestall a resurgence, urging the citizens to go about their lawful businesses.
