Passionate Youth Corps Member Leads Successful OWO100 Campaign, Collecting 100 Blood Donors in Owo »

In a remarkable demonstration of dedication and community engagement, Victor Otor, a fervent Youth Corps member, took the lead in organizing the highly successful OWO100 campaign, resulting in the recruitment of 100 voluntary blood donors in Owo.

The initiative, conducted in collaboration with the Achievers University Medical Laboratory Science Students Association and the National Blood Service Commission, aimed to tackle the pressing issue of blood scarcity by encouraging voluntary blood donations.

The OWO100 campaign kicked off with an extensive awareness campaign in late May, spanning the first week of June. The primary blood donation drive was held at two prominent venues: Achievers University Owo and the Owo Local Government Secretariat. On June 6th, 2023, the Achievers University event witnessed an impressive collection of 64 units of blood. The following day, June 7th, 2023, an additional 21 units of blood were donated at the Owo Local Government Secretariat, resulting in an outstanding total of 85 units.

Despite initial skepticism and sporadic requests for financial incentives, the campaign emerged victorious, largely due to the unwavering support and cooperation received from various individuals and organizations. Notably, the management of Achievers University played a pivotal role in rallying the university community’s participation in the blood donation drive. Provost Prof. Omolola O. Irinoye, Dean of Students Affairs Dr. Taiwo S. Adenegan, and Head of the Medical Laboratory Science Department Dr. Mrs. Olabisi Adejibike Oduwole exhibited exceptional leadership and commitment to the cause.

Victor Otor’s initiative underscores the crucial role that every individual can play in addressing the challenges posed by blood scarcity.
