The All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial candidate for Kogi East, Chief Joseph Ameh Erico, has pledged to pursue more federal projects, employment opportunities and security support for Omala Local Government Area if elected to the Senate in 2027.

Erico made the pledge during a visit to Omala, where political leaders, party supporters, traditional rulers and community stakeholders called for greater attention to infrastructure, security and youth employment in the area.

The senatorial candidate visited the palace of the Onu-Ife and Chairman of the Omala Traditional Council, HRH Chief Boniface Musa, who received him alongside other traditional rulers.

During the meeting, the traditional ruler reminded Erico that the welfare of the people should remain the priority of anyone seeking public office. He urged the candidate to consider Omala and other parts of Igala land in his development plans.

Responding, Erico thanked the traditional rulers for the reception and described the people of Omala as trustworthy and dependable. He assured them that the local government would be included in his development agenda if he secured a seat in the National Assembly.

At the main gathering, the member representing Omala State Constituency in the Kogi State House of Assembly, Hon. Umar Yahaya, described the people of the area as politically committed and pledged the support of Omala APC for Erico’s senatorial ambition.

Yahaya also highlighted Erico’s experience in the private security sector, expressing confidence that it could contribute to efforts to address security challenges in Omala and other communities across Kogi East.

The Executive Chairman of Omala Local Government Area, Hon. Edibo Ameh Mark, commended the Kogi State Government for its interventions to address security concerns in the area since the beginning of his administration.

Mark also expressed support for Erico’s aspiration, saying youths, women and elders in the local government were united behind his ambition. However, he urged the candidate to prioritise the area’s development needs if elected.

“The development of our dear local government area is not where we want it to be yet. We need more attention in terms of infrastructure, security and opportunities for our people,” the chairman said.

“We are asking Chief Erico to make Omala an important part of his development agenda because we are confident of his victory, by God’s grace.”

Other speakers at the gathering called for increased investment in infrastructure, security, youth empowerment and employment. They also pledged to mobilise support for the APC candidate ahead of the 2027 senatorial election.

Addressing the gathering, Erico reiterated his commitment to improving the lives of constituents across the nine local government areas that make up Kogi East Senatorial District.

If given the opportunity to serve, I will ensure that the area benefits from development initiatives and other opportunities available through the National Assembly,” he said.

Erico said his ambition was driven by the desire to provide effective representation and improve constituents’ access to federal programmes and opportunities.

He specifically pledged to pursue federal employment opportunities for qualified constituents, particularly young people, whom he said deserved greater access to jobs and economic advancement.

The APC candidate also reaffirmed his commitment to supporting efforts to improve security across the district, stressing the importance of peace and safety to community development.
