Flood: Nigerian Navy Command Engages Kogi SEMA to Enhance Readiness

The Commander of Command Naval Base Bandar, Lokoja, Commodore T. Senibo and his team visited Kogi State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) on familarization ahead of the impending flood predicted by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency.

Commodore Senibo who sought to strengthen collaboration with SEMA, further expressed the readiness of Nigerian Navy to partner with all stakeholders that have vital roles in disaster management. He emphasized on environmental sanitation and clearing of drainage and canal that could aid effective management of flood.

Reacting, the Executive Secretary of SEMA, Alhaji Mouktar Atimah, appreciated Commodore T. Senibo and his team for the visit. He reiterated that Nigerian Navy plays a vital role in search and rescue efforts, stressing that the visit further strengthened the long-standing synergy between SEMA and Command Naval Base in Lokoja.

He intimated the team on the NIMET’s Seasonal Climate Prediction (SCP) unveiled in February, 2024. He further stressed that SEMA has been repositioned and is receiving Kogi State Government’s support for effective service delivery in ensuring measures of averting or reducing effects of natural disasters, especially the impending flood that has been predicted.

“Disaster management required heavy logistics and His Excellency, Alhaji Usman Ahmed Ododo, has the political will to make every sector works in Kogi State”. He added.

He thanked Commodore T. Senibo and his team and pledged enhanced collaboration.
