Kogi Govt Warns Truck Drivers Against Highway Obstruction

The Kogi State Government has condemned the actions of a tanker driver who reportedly blocked the highway around the Nataco area of Lokoja after a dispute with another driver, causing heavy traffic and discomfort for commuters.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, described the incident as reckless and unacceptable, especially with the expected rise in traffic during the festive season.

Fanwo said the government views the deliberate obstruction of major roads over personal or commercial disagreements as an act that undermines the free movement of people and goods. He noted that such conduct will no longer be tolerated.

The government has directed security agencies and relevant transport authorities to immediately clear any obstruction and take firm action against offenders. Those found responsible will face prosecution under existing laws.

He reassured the public of the government’s commitment to keeping roads safe and free-flowing, urging drivers to act responsibly and resolve disputes without disrupting public order.
