Kogi Govt Backs CUSTECH Teaching Hospital for MBBS Clinical Accreditation
The Kogi State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing medical education and healthcare delivery, pledging full support to ensure that the Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH) Teaching Hospital, Okene, secures Clinical Accreditation from the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).
The assurance was given by the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abdulazeez Adams Adeiza, during a two-day Joint Committee Meeting held on April 10 and 11, 2026, at the Teaching Hospital in Okene, where he also served as Chairman.
Dr. Abdulazeez commended the leadership of CUSTECH, Osara, for its commitment to the take-off and growth of the College of Medicine, describing the accreditation process as a critical milestone toward producing highly skilled medical professionals in the state. He emphasized the need for stronger collaboration between the university and the teaching hospital, noting that synergy between both institutions remains key to achieving clinical accreditation.

The Vice Chancellor of CUSTECH, Osara, Engr. Prof. Abdulrahman Asipita Salawu, acknowledged the foundational role played by former Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello in initiating the construction of the teaching hospital. He also praised Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for his decisive support in ensuring the successful take-off of the College of Medicine.
According to the Vice Chancellor, the university has already admitted students into 100 and 200 levels in the MBBS programme, adding that the institution’s management is fully committed to providing the necessary support required for a successful accreditation exercise.
In his remarks, the Chief Medical Director of the Teaching Hospital, Dr. Stephen Shuaibu, appreciated the state government for its continued support and appealed for additional assistance to enable the hospital meet all required standards set by the MDCN.
Also speaking, the Provost of the College of Medicine, CUSTECH, Osara, Prof. Solomon Avidime, expressed confidence that with sustained government backing, the teaching hospital would successfully scale through the accreditation process.
As part of preparations for the accreditation visit, members of the Joint Committee conducted an on-site assessment of the hospital’s structures and facilities to evaluate its level of readiness.
The meeting was attended by key stakeholders, including the Permanent Secretary of the Kogi State Ministry of Health, Mr. Maji Enoch; Director of Medical Services and Training, Dr. Barnabas Segun; Director of Health Planning, Research and Statistics, Mr. Aiyedogbon Johnson; Chief Medical Director, Kogi State Hospital Management Board, Dr. Ayo Olayemi; and Director of Physical Planning and Development, CUSTECH, Osara, Bldr. Ismail Adoke, among other members of the Joint Committee.


The renewed commitment by the Ododo administration underscores its broader agenda to reposition Kogi State as a hub for quality healthcare delivery and medical training in Nigeria.
