Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo Emerges Democracy Newsline Minister of the Year 2026

The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has been named the recipient of Democracy Newsline Newspaper’s “Honourable Minister of the Year 2026” award.

The newspaper said the award was in recognition of Tunji-Ojo’s reforms, digital innovation and efforts to improve service delivery across agencies under the Ministry of Interior.

In a statement signed by the Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Democracy Newsline, Chief Olugbemi Femi, the newspaper said the minister was selected after an appraisal of federal ministers considered to have made significant contributions to governance, security and public service.

According to Femi, Tunji-Ojo had introduced reforms in areas including passport issuance, welfare of personnel and the use of technology to strengthen internal security.

“Dr. Tunji-Ojo has redefined leadership at the Ministry of Interior. Within a short time, he has automated passport issuance, cleared backlogs, improved welfare for officers of NIS, NSCDC, Correctional Service and Federal Fire Service, and deployed technology to enhance internal security,” he said.
