The Chief of Staff to the Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ali Bello, has assured residents that the Kogi International Airport project will be completed on schedule following an unscheduled inspection of the construction site in Lokoja.
Bello’s visit was aimed at assessing progress on the project and reaffirming the administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s commitment to delivering critical infrastructure across the state.
During the inspection, the governor’s chief of staff and his team were conducted round the site by Engineer Sun, who represented the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), the company handling the project. Sun briefed the delegation on ongoing construction activities and progress recorded so far.
Bello said the Ododo administration remained determined to complete the airport project, stressing that the government was committed to delivering infrastructure that would improve residents’ livelihoods and strengthen Kogi State’s economic prospects.
He described the proposed Kogi International Airport as a strategic investment expected to expand economic opportunities, ease the movement of people and goods, attract local and international investors, and stimulate commercial activities across the state.
According to him, the administration is prioritising projects with long-term benefits for residents, adding that the airport would become a significant addition to Kogi’s infrastructure and support the state’s economic development when completed.
The unannounced inspection, according to officials, reflects the state government’s resolve to monitor ongoing projects and ensure contractors deliver in line with its development priorities.
Bello also expressed confidence in the state’s development agenda, saying Governor Ododo was committed to building a stronger and more prosperous Kogi through strategic investments in infrastructure and other critical sectors.
The proposed airport is expected to improve connectivity, facilitate trade and tourism, attract investment and create employment opportunities for residents.
The Ododo administration has identified infrastructure development as a key component of its broader strategy to promote economic growth, improve livelihoods and achieve sustainable development across Kogi State.
However, the inspection report did not provide specific construction milestones, a percentage completion figure or a projected commissioning date for the airport.
