The Chairman of Lokoja Local Government Area of Kogi State, Abdulrahman Hussaini, has held his maiden security meeting with heads of security agencies and community stakeholders to strengthen collaboration and improve security across the council area.

The Lokoja LG security meeting, held at the Local Government Council Secretariat, brought together representatives of the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), women groups, National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).

According to a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman, Muhammad Kabir Zaif, the meeting was convened to familiarise the new administration with the existing security structure and identify areas requiring greater cooperation.

The meeting was moderated by the Senior Special Assistant on Security, Yusuf Muhammad Waziri.

Speaking on behalf of the Nigeria Police Force, the Area Commander, CSP George Clement, commended the chairman for convening the meeting and assured him of the police’s readiness to tackle crime in the area.

“We are prepared to serve at all times, more so now that we have an active and energetic Chairman who is prepared to assist security agencies,” Clement said.
He added that improved support from the local government would enhance the operational effectiveness of security personnel.

The Divisional Police Officer of Obajana Division also highlighted security challenges and achievements recorded in the area, stressing the importance of cooperation among security agencies.

Representing the NSCDC, CSC Nuhu Adamu called for stronger intelligence gathering and closer cooperation between residents and security operatives.

Adamu said effective crime prevention required timely information from local communities and sustained collaboration among relevant security organisations.
Similarly, the representative of the Nigerian Army Brigade Commander, Lt. D.J. Bilal, emphasised the need for inter-agency cooperation and community-based intelligence gathering.

Bilal maintained that addressing security challenges required the collective involvement of security agencies, government authorities and residents.
In his remarks, Hussaini said the Lokoja LG security meeting reflected his administration’s commitment to making peace and security a priority.

He explained that his decision to engage security agencies ahead of other official meetings was informed by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s emphasis on maintaining peace across Kogi State.

“His Excellency, Gov. Ahmed Usman Ododo, addressed us as Chairmen that his priority number one is peace. That is why I deemed it fit to interface with the security architecture first before any other meeting,” Hussaini said.

The chairman pledged to provide necessary support to security agencies to enable them to discharge their responsibilities effectively.

“My duty is to succeed and to ensure that Gov. Ahmed Usman Ododo succeeds, and the first step to that success is peace,” he stated.

Hussaini also assured security personnel that his administration would work towards strengthening the protection of lives and property across the local government area.

“I will do my best, even if it means going out of my way, to ensure I support security agencies to get their job done,” he said.
