KGSG to demolish more houses of criminals soon

Kogi State government has said it would demolish more houses built from the proceeds of heinous crimes such as kidnapping and armed robbery.

The State Security Adviser, Navy Commander Jerry Omodara (Rtd) made this known in an exclusive interview with Inside Story in his office in Lokoja, recently.

According to him, the government has shown commitment towards ending all forms of criminalities in the state, saying that those who have been arrested and prosecuted and built houses out of proceeds of their crimes would lose such houses as they would be demolished.

He said the present administration of Yahaya Bello takes the issue of security seriously and that it is not resting on its oars despite accolades it has continued to receive from far and near over its exploits in the sector.

Rehashing the security situation in the state before the advent of the present administration as part of activities to mark the second anniversary of the government, the security adviser stressed the need for inter-agency intelligent gathering and sharing.

Commander Omodara, who bemoaned high level paucity in the security subsector before Governor Bello assumed power, blamed the situation on crass lack of encouragement for the agencies by previous governments.

The Security Adviser, who praised the Governor for encouraging intelligent sharing among the various security agencies said it was only through that that the menace of insecurity has been adequately curtailed.

On why government decided to first build the Operational Base for the military in Okene, he said the decision was informed by the statistics available to government which states that over 51 per cent of crimes committed in the state before the advent of the administration took place in the Central Senatorial District.

While praising the Governor for his decision to dust off and implement the 2012 Kogi State Vigilante Bill, Omodara said it was a noble move that has encouraged security agencies to gather relevant information from people at the local level.

He further lauded the Governor for putting to work 3000 citizens of the state who are members of the vigilante group, adding that it has helped in addressing the danger of insecurity in the state.

The security adviser described security as the business of all and called on members of the public to be security conscious at all times and report people with suspected characters to the Police.
