Kogi Chief of Staff Commissions 7 Boreholes for KGLG Communities

The Chief of Staff to the Kogi Governor, Hon Edward Onoja, Sunday, commissioned 7 boreholes for communities in Ogugu District in Olamaboro Local Government Area of the State.

The seven boreholes, InsideStory gathered, were sunk by the Chief of Staff and other appointees of the Kogi State government from the area through their personal contributions.

The benefitting communities include Ogo Ochaja, UEC Emonyoku, Ofode Ogugu, Ogudu Efore, Sabongari Adupi, Ogene Oforashi and Ega Orinono.

While commissioning the projects, Hon Onoja who hails from the area, said the boreholes were what “God empowered us to do for the communities.”

He said the provision of portable water for the communities is a quality of great leadership which he would continue imbibe in the interest of his people. “The great quality of a leader is giving more priority to public interests than personal interests. The interests of the people rather than my personal interest were what moved me to spearhead the projects that we are commissioning today.”

Onoja said the boreholes would put to an end the perennial scarcity of water that had from time immemorial bedevilled the communities without solutions from the previous governments.

He lamented that for 16 years the communities were neglected by the governments of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), assuring that the Government of Yahaya Bello would bring succour to the people.

“Our people were made to trek for long distance to fetch water from streams, to draw water from wells and ponds for drinking and household uses. Supply these sources are not reliable and even at that, the water that are gotten from the sources are not portable for human use. But the people had no option but to use them against their wish,” he lamented.

He said: “In May 2017, the communities requested that they needed portable water and today, in less than half a year, the water is provided for their use.”

The Chief of Staff assured that the government would continue to provide amenities for the communities and the state in general, asking them to continue to pray for the government to succeed in its developmental drives.

He urged the benefitting communities to maintain and protect the motorised boreholes from vandals.

He advised them to imbibed the culture of maintenance stressing that it was the only way government infrastructures could be made to last long for the people.

The people were overwhelmed with joy that they could have motorised boreholes with clean water in their communities after many years of neglect by the government.

Speaking earlier, a frontline politician from Ankpa, Alhaji Ibrahim Linco, described the Chief of Staff as a worthy son of the area, and urged him to continue with his good work. The politician said Hon Onoja would be held in high esteem by his people, saying “he knows all our communal predicaments and he is providing solutions to them one after the other.”

He also thanked Onoja for influencing the Government of Alhaji Yahaya Bello to commence the construction of the Ikeje-Okpo-Ogugu road.

Ogwu Agada, a local government worker from the area, thanked Onoja and other appointees from the area for the lofty achievement. “Onoja has written his name in the sand of history. He has become our icon and we will continue to pray for him to grow from strength to strength,” he said.
