Kogi SDGs boss calls for improved funding to meet 2030 target goals

The Special Adviser to Kogi State Governor on Sustainable Development Goals (sdgs) and the state focal person Arc. Abdulmumeen Ahmed Okara has called on the United Nations, Donor agencies and the Federal Government to improve funding to enable states to achieve the SDGs before the 2030 target year.
Okara, who is the State Focal Person for the office made the call Wednesday in Kano at the SDGs “Governance Matters’ RoundTable” with the theme: Discussion on The Role of Governance in Delivering the SDGs.
The SDGs boss pointed out the need for the state to sustain its momentum in the delivery of projects that would assist it in achieving its objectives and meet up with the 2030 deadline for the programme as envisioned by the United Nations.
Unlike the MDGs that was funded largely by the Debt Release Gain, DRG, Okara said the United Nations, The Donor Agencies And the Federal Government should take more responsibility in funding the SDGs, noting that the DRG was no longer coming.
Okara said the current ratio of counterpart funding of 50:30:20 between the Federal, states and local government is no longer sustainable owing to the fact that almost all the states are facing financial challenges.
He appealed to the federal government to adopt the funding ratio of 70:30:20 between the Federal, states and local government areas respectively
The ongoing Kano meeting is taking place at Chilla Luxury Suites with 35 other state SDGs Heads of Conditional Grant Scheme (CGS) and the Office of Senior Special Assistant to the President on SDGs to brainstorm on funding and sustainability of SDGs.
Okara spoke against the backdrop of being adjudged as Exceptional on Project Implementation in the country as evident in his recent excellent presentation at the 72nd United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in United States of America.
It is on the strength of that performance that he has been nominated again to make a presentation on funding of SDGs projects at the Kano meeting.
His presentation at the event would be anchored on his experience concerning funding, sustainability and implementation of projects in Kogi State SDGs.
