PDP in Kogi indicates interest in forthcoming Council Polls

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kogi State, has indicated interest in participating in the forthcoming Local Government Election slated for March.

The party’s Deputy Publicity Secretary, Comrade Mohammed Kabir, told Inside Story that the party came to the conclusion at the end of a State Executive meeting on Thursday in Lokoja.

He said, “The State Secretariat resolved to participate in the proposed Local Government election in view of our belief that the party still has stronghold among the grassroots across Kogi State.

“We call on all our party members, particularly those interested in the Chairmanship or Councillorship positions in Local Government Areas and Political Wards to come out and participate fully in the election.”

While advising the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC) to be fair and transparent in dealing with all registered political parties who would be participating in the election, Hon Kabir said a level playing field would give more credibility to the electoral process.

On his part, the State Deputy Chairman, Hon Sam Ranti Abenemi, who entertained fears that imposition of candidates and malpractices that have become synonymous with the PDP might rob them of any hope of winning any election, appealed to the leadership of the party across the state to listen to their supporters in deciding the choice of candidates in the election.

Mr Abenemi said the party must look for candidates that could muster enough clout within the party to stand against candidates of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to stand any chance at the polls.
