Kogi State Government has directed truck owners to move their vehicles parked along Lokoja major roads in Chikara, around Jamata bridge, Nataco, Kabba, Okene and Itobe junctions on or before December 16, 2018 to authorized parks.

The State Security Adviser, Navy Commander Jerry Omodara (Retired) gave the directive on Thursday, while briefing journalists on government's effort to ensure a free flow traffic during the yuletide season in state.

Navy Commander Omodara said failure to do so, security agencies have been authorized to impound such trucks while necessary payment will be made before their vehicles will be released.

The State Security Adviser specifically called on Dangote Company at Obajana, to immediately clear all its trailers littered along Obajana major roads to wade off congestion around the factory area.

“All Commuters are to maintain absolute traffic rules on the road as provided by Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC). We expect FRSC to sanction any driver that violates traffic laws accordingly. FRSC working with other security agencies are set to ensure secured and congestion free roads, before, during and after the yuletide season,” he added.

According to him, the new law of Kogi State Traffic Management Authority (KOTRAMA) will be fully implemented during the festive period, hence the partnership with the Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Awal Mohammed to ensure strict compliance.

Speaking further, the State Security Adviser added, Governor Yahaya Bello's desire to guarantee safety and a peaceful passage for all commuters passing through Kogi, necessitated the need for the adequate security measure that has been put in place by the government.

“For two years now, Kogi State Government has been able to maintain free flow vehicular movements through the state, especially during festive seasons, as compared to the horrible experiences in the past. 2018 is not an exception as the state is determined to ensure free flow traffic in the weeks ahead.”

The Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Awal Mohammed said the new law of Kogi State Traffic Management Authority (KOTRAMA) will curtail the excesses of road users within the state and instill discipline.

Hon. Mohammed said his office has held series of stakeholders meetings with relevant authorities in transportation sector and has constituted a governing body that will allow for effectiveness of the new law.

In his remark, the Commander, Nigerian Army Record, Elvis Njowu said the Operation Keep Kogi Safe and Free for over two years running has worked assiduously to ensure secured and safe roads, stressing that adequate security has been provided to safeguard road users.

The Commander, FRSC, Isaac Olusegun Martins on his part, explained how over twenty vehicles and staff of the corps have been deployed across the state, saying that his office was logistically prepared for the period as parts of commitments to commuters.

Commander Martins said more workers will be deployed from less congested states to Kogi State, to assist in the operation, as the state was mostly populated because of road users from across the ten states that shares boundary with Kogi.

The Deputy State Chairman, Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO), Comrade Abubakar Mohammed said the association will enforce the strict compliance of its members and expressed appreciation to the government for the effort.
