The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Kogi State chapter has charged Christians in public offices across the country to uphold highest form of righteousness in all their undertakings.

Chairman of CAN in the state, Dr John Ibenu gave the charge today, Saturday at Idah during a Special Prayer Session at the Fourth Kogi East CAN Prayer Summit.

The clergyman, whose prayer session centred on peace, security, socioeconomic and political prosperity in Igalaland, appealed for divine intervention for the entire state to witness temperate climate for prosperity and flourish.

He said it was only in an environment of righteousness, where leaders possessed the fear of God that tranquility would prevail for the overall societal development.

The State CAN Chairman, who took his message from various parts of the Holy Bible noted that the destiny of the entire nation, especially Igalaland was in the hands of Christians and urged them to make good use of the opportunities provided to enthrone peaceful coexistence.

He particularly prayed God to guide all Christian office holders aright and forgive them their shortcomings, saying that in the prosperity of the land, they shall also enjoy peace and love, unity and prosperity.

Dr Ibenu urged Christians to believe that Kogi East would prosper despite some negativities being promoted by few naysayers, stressing that it was God that gives, and when He does, no one would take it away no matter how hard they tried.

He also prayed specially against all forms of insecurity and youth restiveness, and asked for divine intervention on matters that relate to kidnapping, thuggery, armed robbery and other vices the youth in the area engage in.

Speaking exclusively with Insidestory, the Kogi East CAN Coordinator, Reverend John Akoji said this year’s Summit became more imparative as several issues concerning the overall development of Igalaland came to the fore, hence their cry for divine intervention.

He called on public office holders and spirited individuals to come to the aide of the church by empowering more youths to nip vices in the area in the bud.

Reverend Akoji paid special appreciation to the state Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello for creating the enabling environment for peace and development in Igalaland and the state in general.

He also prayed for government at all levels, including the traditional institution in the area and asked for God’s mercies in the affairs of the state.
