…Tasks Traditional Rulers on Piety, Fear of God

Kogi State Deputy Governor and Olimene Atta Igala, Chief (Dr) Edward Onoja has admonished traditional rulers to continually uphold the virtues of piety, justice, fairness, equity, and the fear of God as custodians of culture, norms, and values.

He was speaking at the 2022 Kings/Queens’ Banquet held at God’s Word and Power Ministries INC in Ofugo, Olamaboro LGA of the State, on Saturday.

The Banquet themed: “the throne of Holiness, Power, and Authority” was convened by the Atama Ojo Atta Igala, Pastor Dr Sunday Onaji.

In attendance was the Atta Igala, HRM Matthew Alaji Oguche Akpa (represented by the Odomah Atta); the Tor Tiv, HRM Prof James Ayatse; the Ochidoma, HRM Eliagwu John; the Ejeh Olamaboro, HRH Simeon Ujah; and hundreds of royal fathers from Tiv, Idoma, and Igala kingdoms, respectively. Also in attendance were government functionaries from the various kingdoms.

Speaking, Chief Onoja said a level of piety is expected from Kings and traditional rulers as they are not elected but enthroned by God through the instrumentality of government.

He emphasized that all thrones be they traditional, religious, and leadership belong to God, thus, all allegiances must be to God, stressing that love remains the veritable weapon as it remains the greatest weapon to conquer.

He referenced King David and other biblical rulers who, despite their human imperfections, sought God’s face for restitution and direction. He urged the traditional rulers to always see their status as an opportunity to serve and complement Governor Yahaya Bello’s efforts in enhancing socio-economic development in their domains.

Chief Onoja commended Pastor Sunday Onaji for his vision to assemble Kings and Queens, expressing its significance in further uniting the people and traditional institutions across the Rivers Niger and Benue which he said, speak volumes for greater things to come for Nigeria.
