Executive, Legislature Play Goalless Draw in Novelty Match to Mark Gov. Ododo’s One Year in Office
As part of activities marking the one-year anniversary of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s administration, the Kogi State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development organized a novelty football match between the Executive and Legislative arms of government.
The keenly contested match, held at the Confluence Stadium in Lokoja, was graced by top government officials, sports enthusiasts, and members of the public. The Deputy Governor, who represented Governor Ododo, performed the ceremonial kickoff to signal the start of the game.
Despite spirited efforts from both sides, the match ended in a goalless draw, with players showcasing their skills and teamwork in a friendly atmosphere. The event was aimed at fostering unity and camaraderie among the state’s political leadership while promoting sports as a tool for social cohesion and youth engagement.
Speaking after the match, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development commended both teams for their sportsmanship and reiterated the government’s commitment to sports development in the state.
In his remarks, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly described the match as a demonstration of the harmonious working relationship between the executive and legislative arms, adding that such initiatives would strengthen governance and inspire the youth to embrace sports.
The event also featured side attractions, including musical performances and entertainment, to the delight of spectators.
