Flooding: Kogi Deputy Gov. Inspects Koto Prisons, Visits Ohimege-Igu

The Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Chief Edward Onoja (CIK), yesterday paid a visit to the Koton Karfe Prisons and Correctional Services which is currently ravaged by flooding.

The visit to the prison according to the Deputy Governor was to take an on-the-spot assessment of the level of the damage and to begin the process of providing relief to the affected.

Making a stop at the Palace of the Ohimege-Igu of Koton-Karfe, the royal father thanked Governor Bello for the quick response received given the time frame at which it took Onoja, his Deputy to respond by visiting the prison for an on-the-spot assessment.

“considering the time I received the distress call which I relayed to you, I appreciate the responsiveness given to this nature induced emergency situation, it is a departure from what is obtainable in the past”. Ohimege-Igu said

In his remark, the Deputy Governor said he made the stop at his palace in solidarity with the royal father and the people of Koton Karfe who are hosts to the Prison facility, Prisons Officials and the inmates, before visiting the prison for assessment in order to ascertain preliminary relief measures the Kogi state Government can activate before the Federal Government intervenes as Koton Karfe is the worst hit amongst the nine (9) Local Government Areas in Kogi that is perpetually troubled by flooding.

He also revealed security steps which have been taken by the State Security Adviser Commmander Jerry Omadara (rtd), and commended the Synergy between the security agencies.

Onoja further revealed that of the 226 inmates in the facility, 129 are back to custody whilst adequate plans have been activated to ensure that the 97 others at large are captured and brought back to custody.

He appreciated the people of Koton Karfe community for their active cooperation in helping out through the entire process and further reiterated the seriousness with which Governor Bello addresses anything related to security in the state. He promised that the government will not relent in ensuring that adequate security is provided for the people in every corner of the state.
