Gov. Bello flags off FG’s special grant for 3,000 Kogi indigent women
Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello on Tuesday flagged off another of the Federal Government’s special grant targeted to directly benefit a total of 3,000 indigent and vulnerable women living in various rural areas across the state.
The Governor who was represented at the event by his Deputy, Edward Onoja noted that the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari has continued to introduce several initiatives aimed at bridging the gap between the poor and the rich in the society.
He added that it was obvious that there was now a wide difference between the past and present dispensation particularly in how those deserving of certain interventions were often identified without them being connected to any top shot.
Governor Bello while thanking the President and the corresponding Ministry for such “people focused” intervention noted that the funds would go a very long way in boosting the trade of the rural women while they would be able to meet their basic needs.
The Governor attested that Kogi State has always keyed in to the programs and policies of President Buhari as the state government has similarly empowered women in several spheres of endeavours and has also created an enabling environment for women to thrive.
The Minister for Humanitarian Affairs and Social Development, Hajia Sadiya Umar Farouk represented by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Mr. Bashir Alkali in her remarks noted that the President Buhari led government has shown commitment to addressing the plight of the vulnerable in country despite the slide in the economy.
She asserted that the combinations of strategies, each targeting specific sectors of the society was the approach adopted by the Federal Government hence the introduction of the Social Investment Programs (SIPs) and the diverse initiative under the scheme.
The Minister affirmed that the cash grant of #20,000 each for selected vulnerable women in the rural area was initiated in 2020 which tallied with the President’s vision of lifting 100 million Nigerians out of poverty.
Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouk noted that over 3,000 Kogi women would benefit from the cash grant which would increase their income and collective living standard, boost their trade and enable them to meet their daily needs and as well support their families.
She noted that with the support of the state government, the cash grant would be given to those it was directly meant for and in record time while she thanked the state government for its immense contribution towards ensuring smooth conduct of its various programs in the state.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs Hajia Fatima Buba in her own goodwill message urged the women to use the cash for the purpose it was meant for noting that such grant was as a result of the sensitivity of the Federal Government to the plight of its citizens particularly the women in the rural areas.
