Gov Bello laments deplorable state of Okene roads, calls for urgent FG intervention
Kogi Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has decried the deplorable condition of Okene/Lokoja/Abuja roads and called on the Federal Government to urgently interve by fixing it to ease the hardship motorists were faced with.
Governor Bello expressed this Saturday on a journey to his country home in Okene.
The governor said the contracting company handling the road project “is incompetent” has failed the people and therefore appealed to the Federal Ministry of Works to wade into the matter to salvage the situation.
“This is an eyesore. How can we be suffering on this road like this?” he questioned.
“This gridlock is frustrating. I share in the pain of these commuters as this is the only road that connects to the North and South. Most of these people are lovers of President Muhammudu Buhari and I am confidence Baba will address this issue the moment it gets his attention.”
When asked if he could do something about it, he stated “This road is a Federal Government road project. It was awarded to SGC company, yet our people are suffering because of the deplorable condition.
“We carried out palliative measures on the road in 2017/2018 but that couldn’t last long because of the heavy duty vehicles that ply this road.”
“SGC is not really meeting to the expectations of the people. I know President Buhari will do something about this. These are goods being convened from the north to the south. Some of the motorist have been on the road for days, look at what they are suffering,” he lamented.
