Gov. Bello lifts Kabba-Bunnu lockdown, advises against politicising public health

Kogi State Government has lifted the two weeks total lockdown earlier imposed on Kabba-Bunnu Local Government Area where the National Center for Disease Control allegedly recorded the index cases of the Covid-19 virus for Kogi State.

Governor Bello made this known today in a press briefing at the government house in Lokoja.

The Governor also mentioned that the purpose of the lockdown which was to ensure contact tracing and testing to ascertain NCDC’s claim has been achieved within the last three days and there was no further reason to keep the people indoors.

He urged the residents of the Local Government Area to go about their respective lawful businesses affirming that all the tests conducted from samples collected came back negative.

Governor Bello stated that the state were aware of the addition of another case to the state’s unverified recorded cases, noting that as far as the state was concerned there was no record of the virus in the state.

The Governor expressed that the Kogi State government does not have any issues with NCDC while he urged the Agency to act professional and follow its own laid down protocols. To buttress it’s openness, the Governor said samples of the tests conducted by the state have already been forwarded to NCDC for verification.

Governor Bello however queried the procedure which the agency followed in confirming the cases recorded for the state.

He also cautioned those who were politicizing the Covid-19 narratives to desist from such act pointing out that Public Health should never be politicised.

The Governor urged citizens to continue to abide with laid down global safety protocols noting that the state government would continue to prioritise the interests of its citizens in all its decisions.
