IWD: Gov. Bello Honoured For Women Empowerment

Kogi State Governor, Alhaij Yahaya Bello has bagged another award tagged “Nigerian Trailblazer on Gender Affirmative Action” in recognition of his role in the strategic placement of women in governance.

The Award was conferred on him through the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Folashade Arike Ayoade on behalf of Kogi Women in politics at the occasion of International Women’s Day that held on Monday in Government House, Lokoja.

Receiving the award on behalf of his boss, the Kogi State Deputy Governor, Dr. Edward Onoja applauded women for being exceptional and passionate about effective delivery on any given task.

“My boss understands the optimization of women’s strength. Whatever women are involved in, they are passionate about, hence their empowerment to contribute to development,” he said.

Dr. Onoja who stressed that the present administration of Governor Bello had gone way beyond the 35% affirmative action for women inclusiveness, putting the state ahead of other states in the federation, called on the women to remain advocates of the government.

Speaking, the Commissioner of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajia Fatima Buba said the theme of this year’s celebration as announced by UN Women is “Women in Leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world.”

Hajia Fatima while expressing gratitude to Governor Bello for given women opportunity to serve in his cabinet, assured of their adequate representation, loyalty and support to his government.

She thanked the Wife of the Governor, Mrs Rashida Bello for her contributions in the advancement of women’s livelihood in the state.
