KOGAS; A demonstration of GYB’S democratic credentials – Fanwo
Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Mr Kingsley Fanwo has described the approval of the deployment of the Kogi Open Governance and Accountability System as a “demonstration of the sterling democratic credentials of Governor Yahaya Bello”.
Speaking with newsmen shortly after the weekly State Executive Council Meeting in Lokoja, Wednesday, the Commissioner said Kogi has “set a new example of transparency, openness and readiness for constructive engagement by the citizens”, assuring the people that the platform will “offer them a great stage to partner with the Government in enhancing the standards of living of the people”.
He said: “The Governor just made history as the first Governor in Nigeria to deploy an Open Governance and Accountability System in a manner that will strengthen the position of the people to demand good governance and accountability from the Government they put in place.
“The idea behind KOGAS is to give power and voice back to the people; to create a meeting point between Government officials and the people; to offer the people the opportunity to hold Government accountable.
“During his inauguration for second term, Governor Yahaya Bello promised the people that he will deploy KOGAS to give the people the opportunity to interact with Government officials freely. The platform will no doubt help to enrich governance in the State”.
On how the system will work, Fanwo said the Ministry of Information and Communication is prepared to make it a huge success.
“The people will be free to chat, real time with the Governor, Deputy and other top Government Officials. Views about Government activities could be aired on the platform and the official concerned will respond within 24 hours”, he said.
The Commissioner urged the people of the State not to abuse the platform, but to “seize the golden opportunity to deepen Government-citizens engagement in the State”.
He also told newsmen that Government is already making moves to revolutionize agriculture in the state as a way of surviving the economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
