Kogi Assembly promises speedy passage of 2020 budget

The Kogi State House of Assembly has promised to ensure quick passage of the 2020 Appropriation Bill of N176 billion submitted to it by Gov. Yahaya Bello for approval.

The Speaker of the assembly, Mr. Mathew Kolawole, made the pledge in Lokoja on Wednesday during the budget presentation at the assembly complex.

Governor Bello presented budget estimates of over N176, 123, 091,93 billion to the assembly for consideration.

The budget, tagged “Budget of Prosperity”, appropriated over N92 billion for recurrent, while capital expenditure would gulp N97,153,963,194 billion.

According to the speaker, the executive and legislative arm in Kogi State enjoys a cordial and professional relationship, and as partners in progress, the desire to provide dividends of democracy to all Kogites necessitated the need for the lawmakers to expedite action in passing the bill, to enable government to meet the yearnings and aspiration of the people.

“I therefore wish to assure the people of Kogi that the Assembly will do everything within its powers to give the budget a critical consideration, and as well ensure its speedy passage into law,” he said.

Similarly, the Deputy Speaker of the House, Mr. Ahmed Mohammed, said the budget is rubust and carries huge potential for the economic growth of the state, as it was clear in its content.

He gave assurance that the house would ensure its speedy passage, to give Kogi people the needed developmental stride.

“I believe if this budget is passed into law, Kogi people will enjoy the dividends of democracy.

“So, we will do our best to give a speedy consideration to the budget proposals,” he said.

The Deputy Speaker, however, said the estimates would be properly scrutinised by the lawmakers before its passage.
