Kogi: ‘Bello Will Continue to Tackle Insecurity’ – Omodara Assures
Kogi State Security Adviser, Navy Commander Jerry Omodara (RTD) Thursday said the administration of Governor Yahaya Bello would combat bandits and other criminal activity to make the state safe for the people.
The State Security Adviser who made the remark in a chat with newsmen in his office in Government House, Lokoja, said crime was beginning to change face in Nigeria ‘and we must change our approach in countering emerging threats in the Country.’
According to him, the government of Governor Yahaya Bello stance is not to negotiate with criminal elements adding that the Government is determined and would continue do everything humanly possible to keep them at bay.
His exact words:
“There is an upsurge of crimes against humanity in Nigeria currently. Militants in Nigeria are now coming and perpetrating crimes in the face of bandits. But the government of Governor Bello will continue to resist them within Kogi boundaries,” he said.
Navy Commander Omodara warned against actions capable of compromising the remarkable achievements of Governor Bello on security, saying that the right apparatuses is being deployed to tackle and keep them in check in the State.
“Security of lives and property is a dire need of any thriving country and Kogi is doing its very best as a state. However, the Nigerian government must adopt more drastic measures to further intercept this challenge of terrorism and insecurity holistically.”
He further opined that the bandits terrorising North Central region are moving from North East and North West and are trying to have stronghold on the North Central, and that the government would not to rest on its oars to keep the State safe for its citizens and for economic development to thrive.
While reassuring citizens of government’s commitment to addressing the rising security challenges in some parts of the state, he mentioned some of the recent feats recorded by Vigilantes which led to the killings of three (3) bandits in two (2) different outings along the Lokoja-Abuja road within the last two weeks; “The neighbourhood watch is working well and we will continue to encourage them to work with Security agencies,” he concluded.
