Kogi: NASS Commission harps on need for State Assemblies to Meet Statutory Roles

National Assembly Service Commission Member visits Kogi State, harps on the need for the State Assembly Commission to nurture the Body to meet its statutory role.

Alhaji Alwal Aliu Ohidaise of the National Assembly Service Commission, says the Independence of the Legislature would guarantee the Political development of the Country.

Alhaji Alwal made the remark when he paid a familiarization visit on the Members of the Kogi State House of Assembly Service Commission in Lokoja.

Alwal who is the Chairman of the North-Central Zone of the Commission, noted that the period the military served in no small measure drew the country backwards as a result of the non existence of the Legislature.

According to him, the legislature which is supposed to be independent was kept in abeyance thereby retarding the political and economic development that could have been witnessed in Nigeria.

He stressed the need for the Members of the Kogi State House of Assembly Service Commission to position themselves in the task of providing guidance to the State Legislators to enable the Lawmakers give their best in their legislative duties.

While commending the Present Administration for the establishment of the Commission, he praised the Members for the commitment displayed so far in ensuring the smooth take-off of the new Commission.

He called on the State Government to give the Commission Members the needed support to operate especially an independent office structure.

On the fight against Covid 19 in the Country, Alhaji Alwal commended Governor Yahaya Bello for the commitment demonstrated in ensuring that the people were protected from the pandemic and going about their normal lives.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Kogi State House of Assembly Commission, Alhaji Abdulmalik Andas said the commission which was established in February, Twenty-Nineteen is saddled with the responsibility of providing administrative and legislative guidance to the Legislators and supervises the Staff.

Alhaji Abdulmalik described the visit of Alhaji Alwal to the State as remarkable being the first under the north Central Zone since his inauguration.

He noted that the National Body is pivotal to the service of the Legislative Arm of government and that they would continue to look up to the Commission for capacity building and policy analysis.

In their separate remarks, a Member of the State Assembly Service Commission, Hon. Arome Adoji and Secrateray, Comrade Yemisi Olorunmaiye expressed delight over the visit and called for necessary support to strenghten the the newly established State Assembly Service Commission for effective service delivery.
