The Student Union Government (SUG) of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, has passed a vote of confidence in the Rector, Prof. Salihu Sanusi Avidime, citing measures it said had improved students’ welfare and campus facilities.

The SUG, in a statement signed by its President, Comr. Abdulmalik Abdulwahab, on September 30, 2026, also commended Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for appointing Avidime to lead the institution.

The students’ body particularly highlighted the reduction of hostel accommodation fees from ₦25,000 to ₦20,000, describing the ₦5,000 reduction as a measure that provides financial relief to students and their parents.

Other interventions cited by the SUG include the provision of two electric/solar-powered motorised boreholes, the modernisation of the Polytechnic Library and the ongoing construction of a 124-bed-space hostel at the Itakpe Campus.

The union also listed the remodelling and conversion of Hostel C into a two-storey facility, the ongoing renovation of Hostel A and the procurement of additional computer systems for the annex of the Information Technology and Resource Centre (ITRC).

According to the SUG, the measures formed part of what it described as a student-centred approach by the Avidime-led management.

“At this material point in time, the Student Union Government is convinced that Professor Avidime’s leadership has distinguished itself in a manner that places him on an exceptional pedestal, particularly in his unwavering prioritization of students’ welfare,” the statement said.

The SUG said the Rector’s administration had demonstrated “empathy, accessibility, responsiveness and purposeful action”, adding that the interventions addressed some of the academic and residential needs of students.

The union said the ongoing projects were aimed at improving accommodation and the general learning environment across the Polytechnic.

The SUG consequently reaffirmed its confidence in Avidime’s leadership and pledged continued cooperation and constructive engagement with the Polytechnic Management.

“We pledge our continued cooperation and constructive engagement with the Polytechnic Management as the institution advances toward greater academic excellence, improved infrastructure, peaceful coexistence and sustainable development,” the statement said.

The SUG also expressed appreciation to Governor Ododo for the confidence placed in Avidime and said the Rector had given practical expression to that confidence through the interventions cited by the students’ body.

The Polytechnic’s recent hostel fee reduction has also been reported as a ₦5,000 reduction in accommodation charges, with the institution making revised payment arrangements available through its students’ portal.

Separately, the Polytechnic’s management has identified the provision of two motorised boreholes, library renovation and the construction of the 124-bed-space hostel among ongoing interventions under Avidime’s administration.

The SUG said its vote of confidence was based on the interventions it identified and its assessment of their relevance to students’ academic and residential experience.
