The Amazon for Peace Initiative, a project being fronted by notable women figures in the state has urged the people of Kogi East to back the candidacy of Governor Yahaya Bello in the November 16th governorship poll.

They made the appeal today, Saturday, during a walk held at Ankpa in continuation of their peace advocacy across the state and canvassing of support for the return of the Governor.

Speaking at the occasion, the Kogi East coordinator, Mrs Ejura Mercy Onoja said their aim was to ensure they use their feminine touch as mothers to prevail on the youth to desist from all forms of violence before, during and after the election.

She said the present administration frownes upon any act that threatened the peace of the state, hence the huge investment in the state security architecture since assumption of office by Governor Bello.

The coordinator who is also the wife of the Chief of Staff to the Governor, stressed the need for all stakeholders in the Kogi Project to tenaciously hold on to the government of the day because even though the Governor was not an Igala man, he had done so much for Kogi East.

“Those of us from Igalaland have seen the kind of love the Governor has for the people of Kogi East and the state in general because the positive impact of the administration can be felt everywhere, especially in our (Igala) land,” Mrs Onoja emphasised.

“We never had it so in the past, even though all civilian Governors of the state since its creation in 1991 have been from Igalaland,” she added.

She mentioned several road projects including those in Ankpa Township, the one in Ibana-Okpo-Ogugu-Ette, the Umomi-Idah Roads among others; the rural electrification projects going on in the entire senatorial district; water projects, employment and empowerment opportunities among others; and urged the people to reciprocate by voting massively for the Governor in order to sustain the developments.

She equally expressed gratitude to the wife of the Governor, Mrs Rashida Bello, for her motherly role in the affairs of the state, especially her life-changing programmes through her pet project, and urged her to continue to do more for the benefit of the state.

Mrs Onoja then applauded her husband, Hon Edward Onoja, for standing firm behind the Governor and noted the determination of the women of Igalaland to also back the Governor for another term.
