Land Reclamation: KGSG wants Dangote to abide by global standards

Kogi State Government has called on Dangote Cement Company to adhere strictly to the global practices of reclamation.

The State Commissioner for Sold Minerals and Natural Resources, Hon. Abubakar Bashiru Mohammed made the call in Obajana when he paid a working visit to the company.

According to him, the management of the company should look into their reclamation policy to know whether is in accordance with the global practices, adding that if nothing is done, the state government would have no option than to ask them to do the needful.

The commissioner also emphasized on the need for them to be proactive in their Community Development, saying that the company should be socially responsible to their host communities.

Hon. Abubakar who bemoaned the type of bilateral agreement between the state and the company said time has come for the state and the company synergies on how the mining of the mineral deposits in the state would be beneficial not just to the company but the host communities and the state

The commissioner while reiterating the commitment of the state government to providing a conducive environment for the company to operate stated that the state should benefit more than what she is getting as revenue from the company.

He commended them for the industrial transformation of the state in the area of job creation and economic transformation, saying that the state is on the global map courtesy of Dangote Cement Company.

Responding, the GM Community Affairs and Special Duties, Elder, Ade Anlemi who thanked the commissioner for the visit, said that the company has been keeping to the letters of their Community Development Agreement (CDA) with host communities.

Elder Anlemi said the company has done a lot in the area of its Corporate Social Responsibility, adding that if there is room for improvement, it would be included in the Community Development Agreement.
