Obanewo Withdraws from Kogi Assembly Race, Backs Party Consensus Candidate
Hon. Obanewo Titus Femi has officially withdrawn from the race for the Kogi State House of Assembly seat representing Gbedde Constituency.
In a statement issued on Friday, Obanewo said his decision followed consultations and the intervention of the Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, whom he commended for promoting unity, stability, and strategic political alignment within the ruling party.
According to him, he resolved to step down in support of the party’s consensus candidate in the interest of progress and collective political harmony.
He described the decision as a demonstration of discipline, sacrifice, and political maturity rather than weakness.
“Politics, like life, is a game of rhythm—knowing when to step forward and when to step aside. Today, I choose to step aside, not as an end, but as a bold recalibration,” he stated.
Despite his withdrawal from the contest, Obanewo maintained that his passion for public service remains intact, assuring supporters that his political structure and vision for Gbedde Constituency are still alive.
He expressed appreciation to God, his wife, members of the Obanewo family, supporters across Aiyetoro Gbede Community, Gbede and Ijumu stakeholders, as well as friends and political associates including Hon. Yakubu Siyaka Adabenege, popularly known as Fancy, and Engr. Friday Oloniyo.
The former aspirant also called on his supporters and stakeholders in the constituency to remain calm, united, and committed to ensuring victory for the party’s candidate.
“The journey continues,” he added.
