WASSCE 2020 in Kogi: Gov't warns against all forms of malpractices »

The Special Adviser to the Governor of Kogi State on Education Science and Technology, Dr Gabriel Ottah, has reiterated government’s stern warning against misconduct during the ongoing final examinations for Senior Secondary students.

He gave the warning while inspecting some schools in parts of Kogi East Senatorial District during the commencement the Senior School Certificate Examination by the West African Examinations Council.

Dr Ottah said anyone caught in any form of examination misconduct, whether student, teacher or parent, would face severe punishment as provided for by existing laws.

He enjoined students to study hard and write their exams instead of falling back on cheating, adding that parts of the problems in Nigeria were caused by people who used results obtained from examination malpractices to gain either admission into higher institutions or job opportunities.

The S A and Mass Communication scholar said government had worked very hard to make schools in the state safe for the final examinations and called on the people to consolidate government’s efforts by ensuring compliance with both the examination rules and the Covid 19 prevention protocols.

The Special Adviser added that he was working closely with the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Hon Wemi Jones and stakeholders in the Ministry to carry out the task of even inspection across the state.

Some of the schools visited were St Peter’s College, Idah; Bluepearls Academy, Idah; Federal Government College, Ugwolawo; Polytechnic Secondary School, Idah; Community Secondary School, Ejule; Our Lady of Schools, Anyigba; and Brain Model Academy Anyigba among others.

In their separate remarks, principals of St Peter’s College Idah, Jonah Zekeri, Polytechnic Secondary School Idah, Israel Olusesi, and Our Lady of Schools Anyigba, Akpa Philip Adama, commended the state Governor Alhaji Yahaya Bello for his proactiveness in tackling the coronavirus pandemic. They called for a sustained effort in educational development.

At the time of visit, students were orderly as they wrote Mathematics.

The inspection would continue throughout the span of the examinations.
