Yagba West NYCN marks 2020 International Youth Day

The Yagba West Chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria has marked its 2020 International Youth Day at Odo-Ere, the headquarters of the council.

The occasion brought together several youth groups, associations and other stakeholders with issues that affect the demographic being on the front burner.

The Speaker at the occasion, Mr Oshagbemi Sesan appreciated the opportunity given to him by NYCN Yagba West LGA to speak on main issues that trouble the social, economic and political system of Nigeria, especially as it affect the youths.

He anchored his paper on the concept of leadership, a leader and character building among Nigerian youths, stressing that leadership was about both influence and capacity.

“Leadership is simply the action of bringing collectivity and orderliness into achieving a corporate goal in a society where every individual takes responsibility towards the set objectives. leaders and followers have a defined responsibility in achieving the societal goals.”

He described Character Building as virtue that is not negotiable for prospective leaders in all spheres of life in order to have maximum impact on the society, adding that for it is expedient for a leader to exhibit qualities commensurate to the office they occupy.

“Imposition and circumstance may take man to the position of leadership but character will sustain him,” he added.

In their separate remarks the Head of Education & Social Services Department of the council, Mrs O T Saliu and the Public Relations Officer, Mr Ogungbemi Omokayode advised the youth to be be up and doing and position themselves for societal leadership.

In his own remarks, the Coordinator of the National Youth Council of Nigeria for Yagba West, Comrade Sunday Dada described the day as a period to put searchlight on issues that affect the youth and identify their place in leadership in the larger society.

He used the opportunity to thank various stakeholders for their show of concern for the youth of the area, noting that they were lucky to have the type of political leaders that they have in Yaba West.

He appealed to political office holders from the area, philanthropists, stakeholders on issues that concern the youths to come to the aid of the young ones through necessary support that would give them a sense of belonging.
