Pathological Liars and the Prideful Who Lie Effortlessly: A Dangerous Dance of Deception

“Some people lie so well, they start believing their own fiction, until reality comes knocking, and pride won’t open the door.” – Dr. Sandra C Duru

There’s something deeply unsettling about those who lie without blinking, and those whose tongues roll out falsehoods as naturally as breath. Pathological liars and prideful individuals who lie effortlessly don’t just manipulate facts; they manipulate realities. And worse, they often do it with confidence, charm, and calculated ease.

A pathological liar is someone for whom lying has become second nature. It’s not just about covering up a mistake or avoiding consequences; it’s compulsive. These individuals often lie even when there’s nothing to gain, driven by a need to control narratives, feel important, or maintain an illusion of perfection. The truth becomes a threat to their constructed world.

But when pride walks in alongside this compulsive deception, a dangerous cocktail is formed. The prideful liar lies not just compulsively, but defiantly. Their ego can’t handle vulnerability, accountability, or shame, so they spin tales to protect the facade. They don’t just want to deceive you; they want to dominate your perception of them.

And here’s the worst part: they rarely feel remorse. Their lies are cloaked in justification. They call it strategy, self-defense, or even “just being smart.” But at the core, it’s cowardice masked in arrogance.

These kinds of people destroy trust, poison relationships, and gaslight others into questioning their own sanity. In families, they cause emotional trauma. In politics and leadership, they endanger lives. In personal relationships, they leave a trail of broken hearts and confused minds.

Proverbs 6:16-19 warns us of six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to Him. Among them? “A lying tongue” and “a proud look.” When lying and pride marry, the offspring is destruction.

Let’s be wise and discerning. Not every smiling face tells the truth. Not every confident speaker is sincere. And not every polished story is pure. Protect your peace. Trust actions more than words. And remember, truth may hurt, but lies kill.

“A humble poor man holds more dignity than a prideful liar who lacks wisdom, truth, and shame.” – Prof. Mgbeke
