Flash Flood In Owara, Comrade Abdullahi Adamu Alerts NEMA, SEMA

The Executive Chairman of Lokoja Local Government Area Comrade Abdullahi Adamu this morning led the Lokoja Local Government Emergency Management Committee (LEMC) for an on the spot assessment following a midnight flash Flood in Owara that has displaced hundreds, destroyed houses and farmland on Tuesday.

The Chairman who was represented by the Chief of Staff, Hon. Emmanuel Egamana was received at the Palace of the Obaro, Alhaji Seidu Adoga Aliyu before visiting the affected areas.

While addressing the displaced persons, the Chairman expressed sadness for the unfortunate and unexpected event, the first of it’s kind in the community. He assured them that the assessment will be submitted for immediate assistance and intervention. “both the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and other relevant authorities and stakeholders have been informed of this unfortunately. The Local Government will push for a quick intervention to cushion the effect of the natural disaster.”

Alh. Seidu Adoga Aliyu thanked the Chairman and the Committee members for the quick response. He appealed to the government agencies in charge to expedite the process of bringing relief to the hundreds of family who are now stranded and provided a temporary shelter at the LGEA Schools.

To take stock of the unfortunate incidence, the Local Government HOD Education and Secretary of the Lokoja Local Government Emergency Management Committee (LEMC), Mrs. Sefiya O. Abubakar led the LEMC along with the HOD Health; Muhammed Bochi Umar, HOD Works; Alh. Abdullahi Ndagi Nuhu, the Supervisor for Education; Hon. Tenimu Tanimu Nayashi and Hon. Ibrahim Danlami Ibrahim; Supervisor for Works.

Also in the team were the Director of Local Government Administration, Alh. Aliyu Musa Omuwa, representative of the Red Cross, Mallam Abdullahi Suleiman Balarabe and other members of the LEMC.

Recall on 7th August, 2025, Lokoja Local Government Area in anticipation of the 2025 flood inaugurated the LEMC to coordinate response and relief efforts for potential flood victims.

The Local Government in collaboration with Emergency Management Agencies designated relief Camps in the following places St. Luke Primary School (Adankolo Camp), LGEA Primary School (Felele Camp), LGEA Primary School (Owara Camp), LGEA School (Kabawa Camp), LGEA School (Sarkin Noma Camp).
Others includes LGEA Primary School (Budon Camp), LGEA School (Mami Camp) and Adult Continuing Education Model Training Center (Cantonment Camp).

The Estate Camp at second NNPC Filling Station, Felele and the LGEA Schools in Karara, Edo, Jamata, Abugi and Eggan will also serve as relief centres.
