Kogi Deputy Governor Joel Salifu Gets NYC Confidence Vote »

The Nigeria Youth Congress (NYC) has passed a vote of confidence in the Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Comrade Joel Salifu, citing his support for youth development and accessibility.

The vote was announced by the National President of the congress, Engr. Jethro Kaluba Annum, during a meeting with the Deputy Governor on Tuesday in Lokoja.

The meeting followed the inauguration of the newly constituted Kogi State executives of the organisation, who also pledged their support for the administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo.

Responding, Salifu assured the congress that the Ododo administration would continue to support the organisation, describing the NYC as one of the formidable youth groups in the country.

The Deputy Governor said his doors remained open to the leadership and members of the congress, urging them to bring forward their concerns and ideas.

He also called on the congress to intensify the mobilisation of youths across the state in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Ododo ahead of the 2027 general and gubernatorial elections.

Salifu congratulated the newly inaugurated state executives and promised that their requests would receive urgent attention.

Earlier, a stakeholder of the congress, Hon. Abah Samuel Eleojo, described the Deputy Governor as a humble and accessible leader, saying his presence in government had come at an important time for the organisation.

Eleojo said the congress came to Kogi to inaugurate its new executives and contribute to shaping the future of youths through mentorship and orientation.

Although the NYC is an apolitical organisation, he said its members had resolved to support President Tinubu and Governor Ododo based on what they described as the achievements of their administrations.

He also appealed to the Deputy Governor to remain actively involved in the activities of the congress.

The Kogi State Chairman of the NYC, Comrade Moses Juwon, said the visit was aimed at familiarising the organisation with the Deputy Governor and reaffirming its support for him and the state government.

Annum described the NYC as a platform for youth mobilisation, orientation and development, noting that Kogi was the first state he visited since assuming office as national president.

He thanked Governor Ododo and the Deputy Governor for the hospitality extended to the organisation.

Annum further declared the support of Kogi youths, particularly those from Kogi East, for Salifu’s leadership.

He disclosed that the congress was mobilising youths at the local government and ward levels, with a plan to mobilise 25 youths in each political unit across the federation.

The National President subsequently moved a motion for a vote of confidence in the Deputy Governor, which was supported by members of the congress.

Former Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Salisu Sani Ogwu, also described Salifu as an exceptional leader, saying Kogi East youths were proud of his achievements and remained loyal to him.

The congress reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the administrations of President Tinubu and Governor Ododo.
