Kogi set to conduct Free MNCH week across PHCs in the state

The Kogi State Government, through the ministry of Health is set to commence the first round of the Maternal Newborn and Child Health (MNCH) week, which was scheduled to hold between Monday 30th July till the Friday 3rd of August.

According to Dr. Saka Haruna Audu, the one week exercise would be dedicated to free Health interventions, which includes HIV Testing Services, Antenatal care, Malaria prevention, Family planning services and Health promotion.

Other services according to him were Nutrition Assessment, Vitamin A supplementation, De-worming, Routine Immunisation, Birth Registration and Long lasting Insecticidal Nets distribution.

Audu  disclosed that all the enlisted services  would accessible in all the Primary Health Care (PHCs) facilities  across the three senatorial district of the state.

He explained that though Nigeria constitutes less than 1% of the world's population, yet the country accounts for 10% of the global burden of infant, child and maternal mortality. 

He mentioned that the State in the last 2 1/2 years under the watch of His Excellency Alhaji Yahaya Bello has responded to this pathetic and heart wrecking Health Indices by building strong Political Will to end preventable Maternal, Newborn & Child Deaths within a Political Dispensation. 

According to him, these high impact Maternal and Child Health interventions were part of the Strategies that have been adopted as part of the efforts to reduce Infant and Maternal Mortality Rates to under 10 deaths per 1000 live births and 100 deaths per 100,000 live births respectively as stipulated in these administratiom’s NewDirectionBlueprint for the Health Sector.
