Kogi Agric Commissioner launches Olajumoke Foundation

Hon. Kehinde Oloruntoba, the Kogi State Commissioner for Agriculture has officially launched the maiden edition of “Kehinde Oloruntoba Annual Colloquium and Olajumoke Oloruntoba Foundation on Saturday in Lokoja the Kogi State Capital.

Speaking, the chairman of the occasion, who is also the Executive Chairman of Kogi State Board of Internal Revenue, Hon. Aliyu Salami said one of the ways of solving societal problems was through the initiative put in place by the commissioner to give hope to the less privileged and the vulnerable.

Hon. Salami said while the Olajumoke Olruntoba Foundation was about the act of giving, the Kehinde Oloruntoba Annual Colloquium would dissect issues and come up with lasting solutions.

“This effort is absolutely commendable. The foundation which is meant to honour the late mother of our commissioner, Hon. Oloruntoba resonates with me. It is put together to address the challenges youth and women are confronted with, and it will go along way in ameliorating their challenges.”

In his remark, the initiator of the colloquium and foundation, Hon. Kehinde Oloruntoba said the foundation was in honour of his late mother who loved and had so much passion for education; while the colloquium with this year’s theme; Youths in Contemporary Nigeria: “Setting the Right Agenda” was aimed at developing the capacity of young people to understand the everyday issues the society is faced with.

“The Kehinde Oloruntoba Colloquium is one of the two major events commemorating my birthday anniversary that will serve as a research centre for topical issues, guide young people to know what to venture into and the second being the launching of Olajumoke Oloruntoba foundation a platform that hopes to share my passion for humanity with like minds on giving back to the society,” he explained.

According to him, his mother single handedly raised and saw him and five of his siblings through school adding that he would continue to support orphans and widows in the society as God empowers him.

“I know what it means to be raised by a single parent. So many are limited because of circumstances beyond their control. Even though my mother lost her husband, she worked hard and saw six of us through school and I will remember her with this foundation.”

In a goodwill message, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon. Edward Onoja said irrespective of the background/challenges and the birth circumstances of any individual he or she could become a success if they were resilient.

“This is what society should be like, adding value to the vulnerable, we are here in memory of a caring mother who gave her all in the face of adversity to see her seeds get educated. Our amiable Governor had a similar experience, he also lost his father at a much younger age and was left with just the mother to cater for him, but look where he is?”

The event which was well attended had discussants; on gender inequality which was championed by the Director General, Bureau for Public Procurement, Dr. Stella Adejo, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon. Edward Onoja on youths in politics, others were on entrepreneurship, education and social media.
