Kogi COS, Asuku Empowers 250 widows, commissions project to mark birthday

As part of activities marking his 41st birthday, Chief of Staff to Kogi State Governor, Pharmacist Abdulkareem Mohammad Jamiu Asuku through his foundation, the Pharm. Abdulkareem Asuku Empowerment Foundation (PAAYEF), has empowered several youths, widows drawn from different parts of Kogi Central Senatorial District.

The Chief of Staff also commissioned a borehole project at his Alma mater, Abdul Azeez Attah Memorial College (AAAMCO).

Asuku, while appreciat­ing God’s faithfulness as he added another year, gave various cash gifts to widows and several families affected by the unfortunate violence in Ebira land as far back as 2007-2009.

The 2020 Press Corps Philanthropist of the year who was represented at the event by the Chairman of Ajaokuta local government area, Hon. Mustapha Akaaba, also appreciated his principal and Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello for the support the foundation enjoys.

He said away from the mediacl and educational outreaches that the foundation is known for, it decided to empower the widows this year as the country is faced with recession believing that it’ll help to mitigate the impact of the economic downturn.

Commenting on the gesture, Governor of the state, Yahaya Bello commended the efforts of the foundation in complimenting his administration policies of reducing poverty and stabilizing peace. He urged the widows to utilize the opportunity by investing the fund judiciously and assured that his administration will continue to provide support to people-oriented projects in the state and across the country.

Bello who was represented by the Chairman of Okene local government area, Hon. Abdulrazak Mohammed, thanked the people of Kogi Central Senatorial District for their continued support for his administration. He further called on the people to remain united and shun all divisive acts, assuring that the government is committed to delivering the highest dividends of democracy to the people.

On his part, the Special Assistant on media to the Chief of Staff while addressing newsmen after the event said the empowerment program which captured 200 widows across the five local government areas in Kogi Central was the highlight of the annual intervention programs of the Chief of Staff executed through the Pharm Abdulkareem Asuku Youth Empowerment Foundation (PAYEF). He said although it is still limited to Kogi Central, there is a plan to expand to other parts of the state.

“PAYEF has different empowerment and intervention programs aimed at positively affecting the lives of the less privileged in our society. With the medical outreach program which has provided treatment for over 100 people with different kinds of sicknesses like diabetes, goiter, eye treatment and others in 2020 alone, the foundation have also intervened in the area of school fees payments for students and cash donations. The empowerment to widows this time around is a new introduction which we plan to further”.

Highlights of the event was the cutting of the birthday cake, presentation of money to the beneficiaries, medical outreach program to 123 widows at the event, the prayer for peace and unity, and the subsequent commissioning of the borehole project at Abdul Azeez Attah Memorial College.

The event which held at the Okene civic center was attended by top political functionaries in Kogi State, including the 5 local government chairmen from Kogi central, religious leaders and well wishers.
