Yesterday, May 28th marked a significant occasion for the reigning 12th Miss Kogi, as she, alongside the management of Tripple A Events, spearheaded the celebration of World Menstrual Hygiene Day at GYB Model School Adankolo. This initiative, the second major project under her tenure, aimed to highlight the importance of menstrual hygiene and provide essential resources to young students, empowering them with vital knowledge and supplies.

The event kicked off with a warm reception from the school administration, followed by an introduction emphasizing the importance of World Menstrual Hygiene Day. The enthusiasm among the students was evident as they eagerly participated in the day’s activities, meticulously planned to address the critical need for open discussion and effective management of menstrual hygiene.

One of the day’s key highlights was the distribution of essential items, including sanitary pads, writing materials, water bottles, shaving sticks, and cash gifts. These items were thoughtfully chosen to meet the immediate needs of the students and support their overall well-being. The palpable joy and gratitude from the students underscored the significance of this support, marking a first-time experience for many in receiving comprehensive menstrual health resources.

Beyond the distribution, the event served as an educational platform. An interactive session on menstrual hygiene was conducted, where students were educated on the biological aspects of menstruation, proper hygiene practices, and managing their periods with confidence and dignity. Esteemed guest speakers led this session, sharing valuable insights and practical advice. The interactive nature of the session encouraged students to ask questions, share their experiences, and break the stigma associated with menstruation.

The event was graced by distinguished guests, including Hon. Eunice Treasure, the Special Adviser to the Governor of Kogi State on Women and Youth Affairs. Her presence underscored the government’s commitment to women’s health and youth development. Other notable attendees included Princess Maryam Muazu, Ph.D., and Favor Makolo, founder of the Aid for Her Initiative, who shared their expertise and provided encouragement, enhancing the educational impact of the day.

Feedback from both students and the school administration was overwhelmingly positive. Many students described the event as transformative, providing them with crucial knowledge and resources previously unavailable to them. They appreciated the open dialogue about menstrual health and the supportive environment fostered by the organizing team. The interactive and engaging nature of the session ensured that the information was both effectively communicated and retained.

The celebration at GYB Model School Adankolo not only marked a successful event but also reaffirmed the power of education and community support in addressing critical health issues. Moving forward, the aim is to continue promoting a healthy environment and ensuring that every girl is equipped with the knowledge and resources to manage her menstrual health with dignity. Together, efforts will persist to break the stigma surrounding menstruation and empower the next generation to lead healthier, more confident lives.
