PDP Leaders in Kogi Central Join APC, Back Yahaya Bello’s Senate Bid

Key stakeholders and members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kogi Central Senatorial District have announced their decision to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) and support the senatorial ambition of former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello.

The development was made public on Wednesday as campaigns for the 2026 National Assembly elections officially commenced, with former PDP leader, Hon. Suberu Azamare Yakubu, visiting Bello and announcing the decision.

Azamare, who was described as a rallying point for the PDP in Kogi Central, said the decision followed what he described as the party’s loss of direction and electoral appeal in the district.

He told Bello that PDP members in the area had resolved to move into the APC and support his senatorial ambition.

“I want to say to you, Your Excellency, that we have resolved to move into the APC and support your senatorial ambition,” Azamare said.

He also described Bello’s tenure as having contributed to what he called political liberation, development, peace and security in Ebiraland.

According to him, the former governor’s senatorial contest would amount to a referendum through which the people of Ebiraland could express their appreciation for his contributions.

Azamare further assured Bello that other PDP groups in Kogi Central would join the APC in the coming days.

The former governor, who received the delegation, thanked Azamare for the gesture and assured the defectors that the APC would provide a level playing field for new members.

Bello also promised that former PDP members joining the APC would be welcomed and given equal opportunities to participate in the party’s activities.

Azamare is a Kogi Central constituent who previously petitioned the President of the Senate on behalf of the Kogi Central Senator in the 10th Assembly after the senator’s initial self-submitted petition encountered procedural pushback.

His latest declaration adds to the political activity in Kogi Central as parties and aspirants begin mobilisation ahead of the 2026 National Assembly elections.
