A new Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police in charge of Zone 8 comprising Kogi, Kwara and Ekiti States has assumed office. He is Moses Jitoboh.

He was welcomed into Kogi State on Monday in Lokoja the capital by government functionaries, traditional rulers, heads of all security agencies in the state and other stakeholders in the sector at the Police Command headquarters.

Speaking, the new DIG promised criminals and their sponsors tough time, noting that his assumption of office which coincided with the inauguration of IGP – Special Squad, Operation Puff Adder, was to inform criminals that their days are numbered if they don’t desist from their heinous acts.

Mr Jitoboh, who said police operations in the zone would be modernized as contemporary technology in the sector would be deployed to fight criminal activities, said it was a new song in policing the areas under him.

He promised them tough time even as he described ‘Puff Adder’ as a dangerous snake symbolizing the determination of the IGP Squad to sting criminals hard, wherever their hideouts.

He was however quick to admit it would not be easy for his men to fight the menace alone, and urged members of the public to provide the police with necessary information to enable them fight crime effectively.

He disabused the minds of some members of the public who see men of the Nigerian Police as security agents that could not be trusted with sensitive information, saying the current cops in Nigeria have been reformed in accordance with global best practices.
