KGSG commences Project Power Kogi East with sites inspection for mast installations

Kogi State government has commenced efforts to put into action its promise of ullukinating the darkness in Igalaland in its flagship policy of powering Kogi East with the inspection of sites for the purpose of installing cable masts.

The gesture was part of efforts of the government of Governor Yahaya Bello to end the age-long electricity problem being endured by the residents of the nine local governments in the district, InsideStory exclusively gathered.

Residents of the over 5,000 communities in the district have been without electricity since the creation of the state despite several agitations from different groups in the district on successive Governors of the state who coincidentally hailed from the area.

Speaking during the inspection, the Special Adviser to the Governor of Energy, Hon. Otayitie Emenefo said the government was committed to providing electricity to Kogi East Senatorial District, adding that the tour was to inspect the site where the transmission mast would be installed.

Otayitie said the type of power intervention that had been approved for the district by the Governor was unprecedented in the history of the state, promising that it would not only light up even the smallest communities, but also open up the entire Kogi East to robust economic activities that will improve the socioeconomic standards of the people.

Mosses Okezie who is also a member of the steering committee of ‘Project Power Kogi East’ headed by the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Honorable Edward Onoja said that the project carries a huge potential of turning the fortune of the state for better.

He added that the governor, upon the inauguration of the committee had declared how passionate he is about the project and has begun committing resources to ensure speedy completion.

He noted that the state government had intervaned in providing electricity to some communities in Odu, Biraidu, Omala and a host of others under its rural electrification program, saying that this particular project will cover the entire Kogi East in one swoop.

Also, the management of Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), Kogi State region who are partners in this venture assured that the company was fully prepared to ensure quality job is delivered to the people of Kogi East, one that will stand the test of time.

Recall that Governor Yahaya Bello on the 6th of July this year inaugurated the committee for ‘Project Power Kogi East’ at Anyigba during the commissioning of the Igala Unity House. This move has received commendations from the people of the state as it is believed that connecting the district to the national grid will usher in unprecedented development to the area.
